What is Cloud Computing? (With Real World Examples)
Mitesh Soni - Research Engineer at iGATE Patni

Cloud computing is a disruptive model for enabling on-demand, convenient, flexible access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be quickly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. In the blog, NIST's definition of cloud computing is represented with some real life things which explains it in easy manner.

Embracing the Cloud Disruption
Randy Bias - Founder at Cloudscaling

Dr. Donald Ferguson knows about IT complexity. The father of IBM’s Websphere and current CTO of CA Technologies was recently quoted in a BBC interview saying, “IT departments spend 75 to 85 percent of their budgets just to keep existing IT environments running; that leaves little room for innovation.” Ferguson explains that a primary driver of this cost profile is that modern IT systems are too complicated, over-designed and, in the end, expensive obstacles to innovation. Cloud Computing = Simplified IT

Cloud Computing Is Not Just a Name for Outsourcing
Timothy Chou - Strategic Advisor at Cloudbook.net

I'm guessing many of you are asking if cloud computing isn't just a new name for ASPs, software as a service, outsourcing or, for us older guys, timesharing. While the cloud certainly shares principles with all of them, something more significant is happening, something with the same impact as the generational shift from mainframes to client/server. Let me explain just how significant it is.

Capitalizing on Cloud Computing: Not If, But When
Jeff Kaplan - Founder & Managing Director at THINKstrategies, Inc

Cloud computing is quickly evolving from a topic of debate to a corporate imperative for organizations of all sizes. Thought Leaders in the Cloud: Talking with Barton George, Cloud Computing Evangelist at Dell
Barton George - Cloud Computing & Scale-Out Evangelist at Dell

In this interview, Dell Cloud Evangelist Barton David discusses: Just do it - While some people are hung up arguing about what the cloud is, others are just using it to get stuff done. Evolving to the cloud - Most organizations don't have the luxury to start from scratch. Cloud security - People were opposed to entering their credit card in the early days of the internet, now it's common. Cloud security perceptions will follow a similar trajectory. Cost isn't king - For many organizations, is the "try something quickly and fail fast" agility that's drawing people to the cloud, not just cost savings. The datacenter ecosystem - The benefits of looking at the datacenter as a holistic system and not individual pieces.

Grid, Cloud, HPC … What's the Difference?
Randy Bias - Founder at Cloudscaling

Some view grid as a pre-cursor to cloud while others view it as a different beast only tangently related. This really comes down to a particular TLA in use to describe grid: High Performance Computing or HPC. HPC and grid are commonly used interchangeably. Cloud is not HPC, although now it can certainly support some HPC workloads, Amazon's EC@ HPC Offering. No, cloud is something a bit different: High Scalability Computing or HSC.

The Cloud Disruptive Innovation: Managing the Business Transformation
Kamesh Pemmaraju - Leading Research on Cloud Computing & Independent Cloud Computing Consultant at SandHill

Some innovations are evolutionary and bring about incremental improvements—sometimes even transformational improvements—in productivity, quality, competitive positioning, and market share. Other innovations impact—if rarely—an entire industry and business ecosystem with the disastrous potential of dislodging well-managed and successful companies who are leaders in their markets. In his book The Innovator's Solution, author Clayton Christensen defines a "Disruptive Innovation" as follows: "An innovation that is disruptive allows a whole new population of consumer's access to a product or service that was historically only accessible to consumers with a lot of money or a lot of skill." We have seen several disruptive innovations in the past 100 years:

Clear up confusion on computing cloud
By: Jeff Gelles
PHILADELPHIA - If your head hasn’t been lost up in the cirrus or cumulus, you’ve probably heard of cloud computing over the last few years. "The cloud" has figured prominently in President Barack Obama’s technology initiatives, in the business plans of familiar tech giants such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, and even in a New Yorker cartoon last month - depicting a parachutist struggling to use a laptop.

The Game Is Always Changing: Non-technical Perspective on Cloud Computing
By: JP Morgenthal
It’s not about what’s different, it’s about getting on board with the changes in the game or get left behind. People say, “What’s so different about Cloud Computing?”, “This is nothing more than managed hosting or mainframe computing redux”, “what’s old is new again”. What was it that Gordon Gekko says to Jake on the subway in “Wall St.: Money Never Sleeps?” oh yeah, “a fisherman can always see another fisherman coming.” Technically, Cloud may be perceived as only incremental changes over what already exists, but those that argue that Cloud is just hype have already missed the bigger picture—the game is always changing and this is the next major change.

Pinning Down the Cloud
By: MICHELLE PRICE
The world of information technology is stuffed with bewildering acronyms and new-fangled fads, but cloud computing is one technology phenomenon not to be dismissed. Likened by some technophiles to the Industrial Revolution, cloud computing is already transforming the world around us and it promises to shape our future world too. Despite its growing importance, however, many companies are struggling to pin down exactly how this technological miracle can truly benefit their balance sheets.

Clearing away the fog
By: James Hall
It is easy to see cloud computing as a mere fog of confusion that can only threaten the channel. Yet there are different types of cloud. Arguably, cloud computing began with SaaS years ago, which has been exemplified by stellar CRM success Salesforce.com. SaaS means that a fully managed application – CRM, ERP, service desk or even Microsoft Office – can be delivered without owning the software or the hardware on which it runs. Since 2007, we have also seen Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). With IaaS, cloud service providers can monitor resource use and bill the customer based on units used – whether these are processor cycles, megabytes of bandwidth, storage read/writes or numbers of virtual machines.

Cloud Computing: The Executive Summary
By: Keir Thomas
Does computing terminology constantly befuddle you? You're not alone. Nobody ever takes the time to explain new tech terms fully, and it seems we're supposed to figure it all out on our own. As this year comes to an end, I've taken time-out to explain a couple of tech terms that have been really popular this year in business computing. I'm starting here with cloud computing. The intention is to keep things simple, and I've deliberately avoided technical language. Of course, this means I can't be exact or precise, and more knowledgeable readers will have to forgive me if it seems I cut a few corners.

Cloud Computing- Right For The Businesses And Individual Users
By: Brian Jackson
"The concept of Cloud computing refers to several application and services all over the internet and it is a group of system software and hardware that are totally responsible to offer those services and applications. This combination of hardware and software is known as internet or cloud. Cloud computing is basically a new technology and gaining more and more popularity since last few years. Basically it is virtualization of technology in which several distributed computer systems are tightly connected together to form or make a large virtual computer system which can easily maintain the computation and huge amount of data.
